Republican Accused of Massive Campaign Fraud

Posted on Updated on

Just when Republicans weren’t on the front page with scandals such as extramarital affairs with lobbyists, anti-gay Republicans hitting on men in the bathroom or boys on the congressional floor, or authorizing the NSA to use warrantless wiretaps on U.S. citizens, just when a Democratic governor is in the news with a sex scandal, the Republicans end up in the news with another scandal.  The Washington Post has the story.  Paul Kane writes:

The former treasurer for the National Republican Congressional Committee transferred as much as $1 million in committee funds into his personal and business accounts, officials announced today, describing a scheme that could prove to be one of the largest campaign frauds in recent history.

For at least four years, Christopher J. Ward, who is under investigation by the FBI, used wire transfers to funnel money out of the NRCC and into other political committees he controlled, then shifted the funds into his own personal accounts, the committee said.

Republicans can’t seem to stay out of the news.  According to the article Christopher Ward was highly trusted.  I can’t find a picture of this guy anywhere…
